Updated report “Vietnam Meat Market” with forecast until 2031

In the context of high GDP growth and the welfare of the population, the consumption of meat and meat products is increasing in Vietnam. In 2020, the share of meat accounted for about 1/4 of monthly food expenditures per capita, given its population (about 99.5 million people), Vietnam remains one of the major markets for meat and meat products.

According to the forecasts of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, meat consumption in Vietnam will approach 7 million tons by 2026 and, despite an increase in production to 6.4 million tons, the country will still depend on imports.

In 2021, imports of meat and edible meat offal to Vietnam amounted to about 1.4 billion US dollars, which is 3.9 times higher than in 2017. Meat was imported from 38 countries, the main suppliers were: India, Russian Federation, USA, Brazil, Australia, Canada. According to forecasts, by 2026 meat imports will amount to over 500 thousand tons, more than 80% of the structure will fall on beef and poultry meat.
